Round 1 of the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii underway!
Round 1 of the Sony Open in Hawaii, the PGA TOUR’s first full-field event of the 2024 FedExCup Regular Season is now underway with a 144 player-field of veteran pros and fresh-faced rookies competing for a share of the $8.3 million purse. This year’s winner will take home a champion’s check of $1,494,000 after Sunday final round.
Defending champion Si Woo Kim is still on a honeymoon high after his dream win last year, weeks after wedding his bride Ji Hyun Oh, a Korean LPGA Tour winner. Kim hopes to defend his title against a stellar field that includes six past Sony Open champions Hideki Matsuyama, Russell Henley, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson, Patton Kizzire and Ryan Palmer, in addition to last Sunday's 2024 Sentry winner Chris Kirk, top-ranked pros Matt Fitzpatrick, Lucas Glover, Emiliano Grillo and more.
The tournament also marks the debut of the PGA TOUR’s new members from the DP World Tour, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. Kaimuki High School grad Chan Kim makes his PGA TOUR debut along with 2023 Rookie of the Year Eric Cole.
Blaze Akana from UH Men's Golf makes his second consecutive appearance at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the third player with island roots is Big Island golf professional Hunter Larson.
